The first thing you need to do to have your space running is to start one or schedule it for a later date and time.

On your Twitter homepage, you’ll see an icon of tweet, click on it and you’ll see; Click on the circled icon named ‘space’ and it will lead you to the next section which is to name your twitter space;

Here you need to click on Name your space. You can have something like; How To Host A Twitter Space, which is basically the topic you want to discuss with your audience.

Here you need to click on Name your space. You can have something like; How To Host A Twitter Space, which is basically the topic you want to discuss with your audience.

The next option is to add topics which will make the space appear to people who follow on such topics. Topics can include; Business, finance, SEO and much more depending on your niche.(Note, this is optional, but will increase your reach)

The next section you will be asked whether you want to record the space or not. Recording your space allows the conversation to be available for replays for one week such that whoever did not join the live discussion can have a chance to listen in. (This is the best practice and Twitter also allows you to see analytics about the metrics your recorded space has achieved for better planning other spaces).

After you are done with the recording option, you will be required to schedule your space if you are planning to hold it at a later date and time. If you are starting an instant space, you can click on ‘start your space icon’.

After scheduling the date and time, the next step is to share the information to your audience that you are hosting a space. This can be done by tweeting, sharing a DM or sending the link through any other channel.

Up to that step, your twitter space is ready either for instant starting or later. Let’s now move on to the actual hosting of the live audio conversation.

At the moment, twitter space can be live for an unlimited time so while planning or hosting you can be comfortable to use enough time as you want.

Hosting a Twitter Space

In this section you will learn what to do when hosting a space. First when ready, tap Start your Space and you will be live.

After going live, participants will start streaming in, once you feel the house is full you can begin the conversations. If you have invited guests, they can join in first then the conversation can start.

(In short, depending on your own internal planning).

The second thing you need to know, the owner of the space is the host and you have power to appoint 2 more co-hosts to help you with moderating the space in case you encounter challenges on the way. Let us look at some of the roles of the host and co-hosts;

  • 1. Allow listeners to speak during the live session. The hosts have power to invite up to 10 people to speak by allowing their mics to be open while the rest remain muted and on listen only. This can be done by sending a speaker invite to participants or accepting requests by participants to speak. Hosts can also dismiss a speaker to a normal listener.
  • 2. The host can end the space, report any participant who is involved in misconduct and action can be taken against them by Twitter.
  • 3. Here other guest management practices can be done e.g. tweeting the space while it is live to invite more participants and so on… That is all about hosting a Twitter Space. Let’s now turn the page to what exactly are the benefits of hosting a Twitter Space for Brands and why you need to take advantage of this new tool.
